The Internet has become the best source of job hunting for many. However, it’s important to protect yourself while searching the Web and applying for jobs electronically.

Do Research Companies Before Applying

During your job search, research companies before applying for a position. Directories such as Canada 411 can give contact information for companies. Many websites offer forums and information on negative transactions or experiences others may have had with the company. This quick research time may save you from working for a heinous boss or a dishonest company.

Don’t Pay To View Jobs

There are many sites on the web that charge people to see their jobs. Oftentimes, these jobs are the same that you can find elsewhere. Don’t fall into the trap of paying to see them. It isn’t necessary. You can find just as many jobs (and probably better ones) on free job websites.

Don’t Give Personal Information Out Via Email

When applying, don’t offer personal information such as phone numbers, social security numbers or any other personal information via email. If you’re asked for a phone interview, ask for the interviewer’s phone number and call them yourself. No reputable company will expect you give personal information before speaking or meeting with them. Save yourself from identity theft.

Ultimately, these are just some of the many do’s and dont’s of job hunting. Use your head when applying for jobs online and think each step out fully. By taking extra time to be cautious, you can save yourself possible trouble in the future. Good luck!

Graduating med school is a wonderful accomplishment! However, now that you’re finished with your degree you will need to start looking to the future – especially if you haven’t already obtained a job. Fortunately, there are many different routes that you can take with your new skills.

For instance, you may want to consider checking out some of the travel nurse programs. As a travel nurse, you will have an opportunity to help people in need that would not otherwise have access to care. This is a great way to see the world after graduation, while working on your own personal career development at the same time.

There are different types of travelling nurse positions, some stay in one place overseas, while others are constantly on the move to a diverse range of communities. It will take you between 2-4 years of schooling to receive certification for travelling. However, you must complete a year of field work before you can be considered for one of the travel nurse programs. So, you should plan on dedicating at least 6 years to your education before you can start working.

Additionally, you could always continue to further your education – there’s no reason to stop learning! Depending on the degree you completed, there are still plenty of options after med school – if you haven’t already, you may want to consider obtaining certification as a specialized doctor because these types of physicians are always in demand. In fact, you may end finding a medical career that suits you better than your current field of expertise.

Self-promotion goes with the territory of applying to colleges and competing for jobs. Your strengths must be made known so that you can be accepted into that competitive slot for college or be hired by a top company. If singing your own praises isn’t a common habit, don’t worry. Employers and college admissions departments aren’t actually looking for egomaniacs. You do, however, need to become comfortable with discussing your strengths on your resume, in college application essays and during interviews.

Assess your strengths. This requires taking an objective look at your accomplishments and inherent qualities. For help, reflect back on the positive comments that your teachers and employers have given you in the past. You may have been told that you are reliable, intellectually curious, a strong communicator or possess some other positive trait. Make a list of these strengths.

Consider examples that reflect your strengths. Your creativity may have manifested itself in praiseworthy website designs. Your ability to lead others effectively may have led to a leadership award in school or at work. Your marketing abilities may have led to greater revenue for a prior company. Refer to these achievements when creating a resume or applying to college.

Express your strengths in the context of growth. Telling others that you are smart or a great presenter may be uncomfortable, but everyone likes to hear inspirational stories about how you worked to achieve these qualities. If you had to work at becoming an exceptional presenter or went to college while working a full-time job, these examples will convey the message that you are educated, a hard worker and value excellence.

One disadvantage of shifting from a small business to a job is that the organization may not give the necessary importance to your experience as an entrepreneur. Setting up a multimillion dollar startup and selling it is not the same as running a small business. The former is given more respect as compared to the latter but entrepreneurial skills are required for both.

If you want to enjoy a good reputation with your employer, you should specify your experience in such a manner that it adds value to your CV. Many persons simply specify that they had run a business and are now applying for the job. This makes it sound as if the business has failed. Rather, one should lead the business to its logical conclusion.

If you intend to continue with the business and do a job simultaneously, you should be prepared for questions about your commitment. Why would anybody go in for a job when he or she has a flourishing business? If the business is not flourishing, why are you not shutting it down yet? Would you be in a position to give your complete time to your job? These are queries that will be post because there is huge demand for jobs after the recession.

What does all this signify? You should not be in a hurry to go in for a job after you have become an entrepreneur. This must be a very well thought out decision because it has huge implications on not just your income but on your reputation and credibility as well.

When looking for a job in this tough economy, it’s important to consider any tactic that might give you an edge from other people who could be seeking the same position as you. With more than 500 million active users, Facebook is probably a platform that you’re already using and it’s quite probable that someone from the company you’ve applied to uses it, too. Make sure you leverage the power of Facebook by learning to use it to your advantage in your job hunt.

Facebook may be a place for you to catch up on what friends and family has been up to, but it can also be used to present a professional image and network with people in your chosen industry. More employers are starting to look at Facebook profiles to decide who to hire. First of all, make sure you use the Facebook privacy settings to make sure that anything you wouldn’t want a potential employer to see (like photos of Halloween parties or things your childhood friends may write on your wall) are hidden.

However, don’t hide everything! You want employers to be able to see some very specific information about you so that they can start to form an image about the type of person you are – which is the type of the person that they’ll want working for them. Make sure that anyone looking at your page can see your education and work experience, especially if it’s relevant to the positions you’re considering. Take advantage of the “project” field in the employer section to highlight special experience you have. Lastly, consider joining Facebook groups that show how interested you are in the industry you’re exploring.

While many human resource employees frown upon unconventional ways to attract attention (like scented paper or confusing resumes), you can easily gain an edge by using Twitter to your full advantage. Millions of people use Twitter everyday but it’s only the so-called power users who have learned to harness the natural power of networking that the platform provides.

When looking for a job, find out if there’s anyone from the company that you’re looking for a position with on Twitter. If so, feel free to follow that person. Connecting to another person via their Twitter account easier and less formal than requesting a friendship on Facebook, for instance. You can gain tips, information and an insider’s look of how people in the company that you want to work for think and express themselves.

Feel free to repeat the “follow” process with other people who are in the same industry, even if they don’t work for the company that you’d like to secure a job at. This shows a potential employer that you have an interest in the industry as a whole and a need to keep updated about the business the company is in. When you do follow, feel free to insert yourself in conversations or to retweet information the people you follow share. This helps to establish you as being able to add something to the conversation.

Finally, one of the most overlooked but useful functions that Twitter provides is a way chat in real time with industry experts – Twitter chats. Look at lists of chats or see if the people you follow participate in any. It’s a great way to network and hear ideas that you can use in your job search.

Securing a stable income with as difficult as the economy has become over the past few years, is more important now than ever before. It’s crucial as a new professional to implement a money saving strategy that will ensure you are able to stay afloat whilst making the transition from college to the working world. The strategies below tend to revolve around a budget that allows you and your household to effectively keep track of incoming funds in conjunction with regular monthly expenses.

Unfortunately, regardless of the difficulties brought on by the immense debt of our country, many people do not utilize a simple budget to ensure they are making the right decisions regarding their finances. Below are some simple ways to jump start your budgeting endeavors.

Gaining Control of Expenses

One of the most important aspects of creating a working budget is to take note of and gain control of expenses. Upon delegating the different aspects of your spending to different categories, it is important to utilize a smart spending plan. For example, purchasing quality manufactured clothing, such as LRG Clothing for job interviews or attire in a professional business setting, will provide a long term solution to having to purchase clothing more prone to wear and tear on a regular basis. Additionally, eliminating eating out on a regular basis in conjunction with binge spending; both can be detrimental to your personal finance.

Keep Track of Income and Compare With Expenditures

Unfortunately, many people are not completely aware of what they are bringing in compared to what they are spending. This results in being short in the bank when it comes time to pay a bill. This problem can be neutralized by carefully keeping track of income and comparing it with expenses on a monthly basis; staying consistent is the key.

While you can’t plan for a leaky roof, broken car transmission or a medical emergency, you can plan for how you will handle the costs associated with these unexpected events. With a little financial planning you can have a small nest egg that will help you through these tough times.

If you are looking to plan ahead financially for life’s unexpected expenses, here is a look at some ways you can prepare for those tough times.

Automatic Savings Deposit

An emergency fund savings account is a great way to save for those unexpected expenses. A great way to start a savings account of this nature is by arranging to have a certain amount of your paycheck taken out every pay period. This ensures that money goes into the savings account and you aren’t tempted to spend it.

Educate Yourself on Available Options

Sometimes you just won’t have enough money to cover your unexpected expenses. Before you find yourself in a situation where you are stressed and in need of money, you should educate yourself on what options you have available to you. Research what payday loans, bank loans and personal loans might be available and what you will need to do to qualify for them. Knowing all this information ahead of time will help save you time and stress should you find yourself in a situation that calls for you to pay for unexpected expenses.

While you can’t plan when an unexpected expense might happen, you can plan financially to have the money to cover those expenses.
